COO Report
Spring 2024

Greetings, National Construction Council members and staff!

The first quarter of 2024 has brought almost 200% growth in existing career opportunities for members. We continue developing future opportunities and partnerships across the country.

We take immense pride in our recent accomplishments through our collaboration with the Carpenters Regional Council. Together, we successfully moved the Dow project outside of registration and RSAP. Furthermore, we included a new requirement in the collective agreement that mandates oral fluid testing for drugs for all types of testing, including site access testing. This new testing method is less invasive of privacy while still satisfying the safety objectives of the A&D work rule.

This quarter, we have phased out several legacy project-enabling agreements. That enabling did its job by securing ourselves on several sites and establishing rapport and trust with the client that NCC delivers.

At the same time, we needed to look hard at projects out for bids. We noticed that competing unions and non-union contractors were securing more of the work than we would like to see. It is time to act. We decided to pursue a 3.5% increase for mid-2024 in several regions and inspire signatory contractors to pursue the work, with NCC's support, more aggressively. Being responsive to the market and reading the room is incredibly important to creating more opportunities and stable and growing work scopes for existing and future members.

More opportunities. More variety of opportunities. Better opportunities. That's the NCC way.
