UBC Journey-Level Training – Building Leadership for a Strong Future
Let Us Invest In You
If you’re an NCC journeyperson with an ambition to lead positive change in our industry, this is the career development opportunity you’ve been looking for. Journeypersons like you have a crucial role to play in helping our union grow and our members thrive. The UBC is working hard to build a constructive culture on our job sites, where tradespeople can achieve to their highest potential. That takes leadership at every level. If your positive attitude is already inspiring the people you work with, if you’re the person on the crew that others often look to for guidance and advice, then we’d like to hear from you. We’d like to invest in you and support you to lean into your leadership talent.
Who Attends
There are 180 journeypersons in each session, from across Canada and the United States.
All attendees must:
Be a journeyperson member in good standing, who has not taken the course before.
Be a working member with continuously high work hours
Not be on staff of any related entity
Be recommended to the program by a Council Representative or Employer
Have a valid passport for travel to the USA.
What Will Happen
After 3 days at this all-expenses-paid career development experience in Las Vegas you’ll come away with more formalized leadership skills in coaching, mentoring, and communicating. While you’re here, you’ll get to meet General President Douglas McCarron and your Council’s Senior Leaders and District Vice President. You’ll be able to ask them questions to improve your understanding of our community and the strong vision we have for the future. You’ll be in an even better position to promote a positive culture on the jobsite, making it safer and more productive for everyone. And you’ll have taken a meaningful step in building your career and representing your union with pride and confidence, making new friends and contacts across the continent.
How Much Does It Cost
It is our intention that you have no out-of-pocket expenses. We book and pay for your economy class airfare including the fee for 1 checked bag, plus room and board at the International Training Centre, and you’ll receive an additional $250 stipend plus an Education Grant of $1000 after completing the program. This compensation serves to cover any small expenses as well as lost wages while traveling.
Where You’ll Stay
The UBC hosts all the members at the 1 million square foot International Training Centre in Las Vegas. The accommodation, dining, and training are all provided on site.
Application Process
The NCC team will do all the booking for you including flight and accommodation once you’ve been accepted into the training.
