Sisters in the Brotherhood,
National Construction Council

I had an incredible opportunity to stand alongside many inspiring women this October at the first Canadian District Sisters in the Brotherhood(SIB) Conference in Toronto, Ontario.

The 3-day event was memorable and informative and inspiring, and its exciting to think of all that energy making its way back to the locals and Councils.

As the newly appointed SIB Chair and Point of Contact (PoC) person for the NCC Sisters, I was honored to attend the conference with Lolita Hoddinott. Lolita is a ticketed Journeyperson Insulator who has been working in the trades since 2004, and who represented NCC tradeswomen from across Canada at the conference. We’ll be working together to strengthen the National Construction Council female membership.

If you support of the SIB mission, please get in touch. We need our Sisters, Brothers, allies, and supporters, to promote diversity in the industry at our jobsites nationwide. (Regular NCC SIB Committee meetings will be kicking off in the new year).

If you’re a sister, please join our private Facebook group “Canadian UBC Sisters” to connect with us!

All UBC members are encouraged to follow UBC Sisters In The Brotherhood on Facebook.

Stay tuned for information on grants and new initiatives to increase completion rates for female apprentices in their respective programs.

I look forward to connecting with our Canadian District SIB Chairs and American Sister PoCs in Washington at the end of November.

Sincerely,

Sara Baldwin - Manager, Human Resources
